Elastic carries exactly one task: giving way, then coming back. This one is Elastic Tape in Hot Pink, 5 mm wide, made from 10 % polyester, 85 % polyamide plus 5 % elastane.
Sew it using zigzag, or an overlocker, never a straight seam — that would snap at its first stretch. Across a waistband, measure its circumference, draw everything to comfortable tension, cutting there; table figures rarely suit one particular body.
Close it into a loop overlapping roughly two finger widths, stitching dense zigzag each direction. Wash cool, drying in open air, otherwise elastane tires over time.
What Gummiband Multicolor Twisted 5 mm Blau/Gelb/Schwarz/Pink is suitable for
- Waistbands over trousers, skirts plus sleeves that hold themselves.
- Lingerie alongside sportswear, where a finish must sit close.
- Children's clothing, because an elastic waist needs no fastening.
Frequently asked questions
How do I attach elastic without rippling?
Using zigzag, or an overlocker, never a straight seam — that would snap at its first stretch. Hold this elastic under slight tension while sewing, feeding cloth evenly beneath, so nothing gathers unevenly.
How much elastic does a waistband need?
Slightly less than its measured circumference, so everything holds without cutting in. Wrap one piece around that spot, draw it to comfortable tension, cutting there — table figures rarely suit a particular body.
Does washing cost elastic its spring?
At low temperature, barely. Hot washes plus tumble drying wear elastane down, however: over time it tires, never quite returning. Wanting lasting spring, wash cool, drying everything in open air.
How do I join its ends into a loop?
Overlap both ends roughly two finger widths, sewing across using dense zigzag, travelling each direction once. Butted together, such a seam never survives pulling, tearing open at its weakest point.
