Description

A neutral shade that shows outlines clearly without dominating the design. Sulky calls the shade “Smokey Grey”, colour number 1240.

Rayon is viscose and has the warm, silky sheen embroidery is loved for. The thread does not lint, does not shrink and is colourfast and boil-proof. Because viscose stretches less than polyester, the thread runs smoothly in the embroidery machine and the stitches lie evenly. At weight 40 it suits the usual embroidery programmes and decorative stitches.

Tip: note the colour number – that way you will find exactly the same shade again later.

Sewing tips

Nadelstärke NM 75–80 verwenden, Universal-, Top-Stitch- oder Sticknadel.
Die Oberfadenspannung beim Sticken etwas lockerer stellen als beim Nähen.
Als Unterfaden ein dünnes Untergarn nehmen; ist die Rückseite sichtbar, passt auch Rayon 40 selbst.
Die Zierstiche der meisten Nähmaschinen sind auf ein Garn der Stärke 40 ausgelegt.
Stickvlies passend zum Stoff wählen, damit sich das Motiv nicht wellt.
Farbnummer notieren, dann lässt sich dieselbe Farbe später eindeutig nachbestellen.

Frequently asked questions

How should I store the spools?

Upright, dry and out of direct sunlight. Dust on the thread carries lint into the machine, so a closed box is the simplest answer for a larger thread collection.

How do I set the thread tension?

While embroidering the top tension may sit slightly looser than for sewing. It is right when the reverse shows roughly one third top thread and two thirds bobbin thread.

Which needle suits Rayon 40?

Ideally a universal, top-stitch or embroidery needle in a fine to medium size. A needle that is too fine makes the thread chafe, one that is too thick leaves visible holes in the fabric.

Viscose or polyester – what is the difference?

Viscose shines more warmly and softly, almost like silk, and stretches less, so it runs more calmly in the machine. Polyester in turn is even more hard-wearing and also tolerates bleach.
