Description

An ombré thread: it changes between light and dark gradations of Pastel Blue. Sulky calls the colour “Vari-Pastel Blues”, colour number 2104.

Rayon is viscose and has the warm, silky sheen embroidery is loved for. The thread does not lint, does not shrink and is colourfast and boil-proof. As viscose stretches less than polyester, stitches hardly pull together and the design stays flat. At weight 40 it suits the usual embroidery programmes and decorative stitches.

Tip: use a fine bobbin thread underneath; only when the reverse stays visible is Rayon 40 worth using in the bobbin too.

Nadelstärke NM 75–80 verwenden, Universal-, Top-Stitch- oder Sticknadel.
Die Oberfadenspannung beim Sticken etwas lockerer stellen als beim Nähen.
Als Unterfaden ein dünnes Untergarn nehmen; ist die Rückseite sichtbar, passt auch Rayon 40 selbst.
Die Zierstiche der meisten Nähmaschinen sind auf ein Garn der Stärke 40 ausgelegt.
Stickvlies passend zum Stoff wählen, damit sich das Motiv nicht wellt.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set the thread tension?

While embroidering the top tension may sit slightly looser than for sewing. It is right when the reverse shows roughly one third top thread and two thirds bobbin thread.

How should I store the spools?

Upright, dry and out of direct sunlight. Dust on the thread carries lint into the machine, so a closed box is the simplest answer for a larger thread collection.

Viscose or polyester – what is the difference?

Viscose shines more warmly and softly, almost like silk, and stretches less, so it runs more calmly in the machine. Polyester in turn is even more hard-wearing and also tolerates bleach.

How does an ombré thread look in a design?

The thread changes between light and dark shades of the same colour at short intervals. That creates natural shading without changing thread, especially lovely on fill stitches, flowers and leaves.
