Adhesion depends on the surface. On smooth, firm fabrics the trim holds well, on rough or heavily textured ones considerably less. A test on a scrap is worthwhile.

For clothing washed often, additional topstitching is recommended. The adhesive is meant as a fixing; a seam makes the bond permanent.

Press at the stated temperature and without steam, or the layer bonds unevenly. Protect delicate fabrics with a pressing cloth.

The trim is most useful for repairs: a damaged spot on trousers or a jacket can be covered in minutes without getting the sewing machine out.

Does the trim hold permanently without sewing?

On smooth fabrics and with infrequent washing, yes. If the item is washed often, topstitch the trim as well, or the edges will lift over time.

On which fabrics does iron on trim hold poorly?

On rough, heavily textured and coated surfaces. It is also unsuitable on very heat sensitive fabrics, as the required temperature would damage them.

Can the trim be removed again?

Heat usually loosens it, though adhesive residue often remains. Test on an inconspicuous spot before treating a large area, and expect the fabric underneath to look slightly different where the adhesive sat.
