Montevideo is a wide cord made of soft plush: instead of smooth velvet, the broad ribs carry a dense, fluffy pile. It looks homely and invites touch. This fabric is made of 100 % polyester, weighs 350 g/m² and is 140 cm wide.Taupe is a calm grey-brown between stone and chocolate, timeless on armchairs and practical in everyday use. This colour belongs to the current Swafing autumn and winter collection and is available in limited quantities.As a cover for armchairs, stools and headboards, Montevideo brings cosiness to any room. How do I sew plush wide cord?

Use a strong universal or denim needle, a longer stitch and ideally a walking foot. The plush is thick, so trim seam allowances narrow and smooth them apart with your fingers, and the seam will not be bulky.

What should I watch when cutting?

The pile has a direction. Lay every piece the same way round, otherwise they will look lighter or darker later. The ribs run along the grain and should meet at the same height across seams.

How do I care for Montevideo?

Wash at 30 degrees, do not bleach and do not tumble dry. If at all, iron only from the reverse on a low setting. A gentle stroke with a soft brush lifts the plush again.

Is this fabric suitable for upholstery?

Yes, it works well for armchairs, stools, headboards and seat cushions. Stretch it taut and fix it with upholstery staples. For heavily used seating, a test piece in a hidden spot is worthwhile.
