The stripes are usually knitted in rather than printed. They therefore follow the loops exactly, do not distort and stay sharply defined even after many washes.

When cutting, matching the stripes is worthwhile. If front, back and sleeves meet at the seams, the finished piece looks considerably neater. Allow a little extra length for this.

Sew with a jersey needle and a stretch stitch. For cuffing and neckline, a colour from the stripe works well – usually the darker one, because it defines the finish clearly.

How do I match stripes when cutting?

Fold the fabric double and line the stripes up exactly along the fold. Mark on the pattern pieces which stripe the side seam starts on, and the lines will meet.

Are the stripes printed or knitted in?

As a rule knitted in. You can tell because the reverse shows the stripe pattern too. Knitted stripes do not distort and stay sharp.

Which cuffing suits striped sweat?

Usually one in the darker stripe colour. Striped cuffing works as well, but only looks calm if the stripe width is similar.
