Tender Touch is Sulky's iron-on backing: it goes onto the reverse of finished embroidery and protects skin from scratchy stitches. It ships as a roll 50 cm wide and 5 m long. At 53 g/m² it sits in the medium part of the Sulky range.
Do not slide across the surface; set the iron down section by section and hold briefly. The coating sits on one side only. Lay the web the wrong way round and you glue the iron rather than the fabric. It ships singly, so you can restock exactly what you need.

Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
May I use steam?
No. The coating needs dry heat and pressure. Steam spreads water across the surface and makes the bond hold in some places and fail in others.
Do I need a heat press?
No, a household iron will do. A press works more evenly and faster, which tells on large areas — but it is not a requirement. Anyone working with it a lot notices the difference mainly in evenness.
How do I store the material?
Flat, dry and without creases. Creases in the coating show later on the fabric, and damp ages the adhesive layer prematurely. The roll is best stored flat in a cupboard rather than upright in a corner.
Do I have to sew as well?
On appliqué the bond holds on its own, but an edge stitch makes it considerably more durable — especially where a piece rubs while being worn.
