Description
For hems, spacings and seam allowances that should come out the same every time. The stated size is 10.5 cm × 4 cm. Sold as a single item. Made from plastic.
Marking the seam allowance at the same time removes guesswork at the machine and hits the edge reliably. In patchwork small inaccuracies add up across many pieces — which is why it pays to measure once more there. The fabric lies flat and untensioned while measuring; stretched knits otherwise measure longer than they later are. Anyone sewing regularly likes to keep such notions in duplicate.
What Prym measuring aid in Transparent is suitable for
- Cutting lengths of fabric
- Patchwork and quilting
- Stepping off even intervals
Frequently asked questions
How do I measure accurately?
Lay the fabric flat, do not pull, and check at two points. Knits deceive most: under tension they measure several centimetres more than they hold in the finished piece.
How should it be stored?
Flat and with no load on top. A bent ruler pulls every cut askew, and it usually shows only when pieces refuse to match. Hung on a hook, a long ruler stays true the longest.
What if it slips?
Small silicone stoppers underneath hold the tool in place. Otherwise it already helps to lay the second hand flat instead of using fingertips. A sheet of sandpaper under the ruler also holds it surprisingly well.
Do I add the seam allowance?
Only if the pattern does not include it. Many patterns already do; a look at the instructions settles it faster than any sum on the fabric.
