Description
Thread snips are not small scissors but a different tool: the spring holds the blades open and you squeeze them with the whole hand instead of threading fingers through rings. That sounds minor until you sew for a stretch and trim threads constantly. The tool stays in your hand or lies right beside the machine. This model belongs to the KATANA range and comes with a cap to protect the blades. At the overlocker it rarely leaves your hand, because chain threads turn up after every single seam.
What Thread Snips KATANA REKKA 1423 is suitable for
- Trimming threads at the presser foot
- Cutting ends after locking a seam
- Removing tacking threads
- Working at the overlocker
Frequently asked questions
What does it do better than scissors?
It is quicker to hand. The blades stay open, one squeeze and you are done. Sewing for a stretch, that saves the seconds spent threading fingers into rings each time.
Does it cut fabric?
It is not meant for fabric. The blades are short and built for thread. A few centimetres of thin cloth will pass at a push, but use proper shears for cutting out.
What is the cap for?
It covers the blades, which the spring always holds open. Without it the snips are a small hazard in a sewing basket and the edge dulls more quickly as well.
Can it be resharpened?
With this blade shape it is rarely worth it. The snips last a long time if used on thread alone; paper or sticky tape will ruin the edge quickly.
