Description

A multicolour thread: Red, White and Blue follow one another on a single thread. Sulky calls the colour “Red/White/Blue”, colour number 2504.

Viscose shines softly and warmly, almost like silk. Rayon 40 does not lint, does not shrink and stays colourfast even after hot washes. As viscose stretches less than polyester, stitches hardly pull together and the design stays flat. At weight 40 it suits the usual embroidery programmes and decorative stitches.

Tip: use a fine bobbin thread underneath; only when the reverse stays visible is Rayon 40 worth using in the bobbin too.

Sewing tips

Nadelstärke NM 75–80 verwenden, Universal-, Top-Stitch- oder Sticknadel.
Die Oberfadenspannung beim Sticken etwas lockerer stellen als beim Nähen.
Als Unterfaden ein dünnes Untergarn nehmen; ist die Rückseite sichtbar, passt auch Rayon 40 selbst.
Die Zierstiche der meisten Nähmaschinen sind auf ein Garn der Stärke 40 ausgelegt.
Stickvlies passend zum Stoff wählen, damit sich das Motiv nicht wellt.
Farbnummer notieren, dann lässt sich dieselbe Farbe später eindeutig nachbestellen.

Can I use Rayon 40 on a sewing machine too?

Yes, the decorative stitches of most sewing machines are set up for a weight 40 thread. The thread also works well for free-motion quilting and for rolled hems on the overlocker.

Which bobbin thread should I use?

For most projects a fine bobbin thread in light or dark to match the fabric. If the reverse stays visible, for example on scarves, Rayon 40 itself can run in the bobbin too.

Is viscose embroidery thread washable?

Yes, Rayon 40 is boil-proof and colourfast. Embroidered pieces can be washed normally, including towels and children's clothes. Avoid bleach, though, as it attacks the colour.

How does a multicolour thread look in a design?

Several colours follow one another on a single thread. On decorative stitches and lettering that creates a lively change of colour without swapping thread. The longer the stitches, the clearer the single colours.
