How do I sew the cushion cover?
Cut your motif with seam allowance all round, lay it right sides together with your backing and leave an opening. An envelope closure is simplest, since it needs no zip fitted.
How do I care for the finished cushion?
Wash at 30 degrees inside out, no bleach, no tumble dryer. Ironing is out, as it would crush the pile. Hang the cover up damp to smooth it, then it falls back into shape by itself.
Does velvet shift while sewing?
It tends to, because layers wander against each other on the pile. Less presser foot pressure and a walking foot help, as do plenty of pins. Sew slowly and your edge stays straight.
