Description

Ladder-resistant means the band is knitted so that a cut does not run. You can cut across it without the edge unravelling or curling, which is exactly the nuisance with plain elastic. It is 25 mm wide and made from 60 % polyester and 40 % latex. The high latex content gives strong recovery: the band pulls back reliably and does not go slack quickly. Use it in waistbands, cuffs and hems, in skirts and trousers as much as in fitted covers. Sold by the metre from 0,2 metres.

What Ladder-Resistant Elastic 25 mm in White is suitable for

  • Waistbands on skirts and trousers
  • Hems on sleeves and trouser legs
  • Fitted sheet covers
  • Waists on dresses

Frequently asked questions

What does ladder-resistant mean?

The band is knitted so that a cut does not run on. You can cut it lengthwise or across and the edge stays put. Plain elastic curls at a cut edge instead and loses tension there.

Can the band be washed?

Yes, at normal household temperatures. Latex dislikes heat and tumble drying though: warmth makes it brittle over time and the recovery weakens. Line drying extends the life of the band noticeably.

How much length do I need?

Measure the body at that point and take off roughly a tenth, so the band sits close without digging in. Try the length before sewing, as body and fabric respond differently to the tension.

Can I stitch straight through it?

Yes. Use a jersey needle and a narrow zigzag or stretch stitch, then the seam will not break when stretched. A straight stitch snaps the first time the band is pulled properly.
