The pre folded edge is the real advantage. Binding an edge yourself means pressing twice and working evenly; with a folded tape that work is already done.

When attaching, lay the tape over the edge so the back overhangs the front by a millimetre or two. The visible seam then automatically catches the reverse.

On curves, stretch the tape slightly or add small pleats. Pulled taut it draws the edge in and the binding ripples.

Pre wash the tape if the finished piece will be washed hot. Cotton tapes shrink and would gather the fabric underneath.

How does a folded tape differ from bias binding?

The tape is woven on grain and barely stretches, bias binding is cut on the bias and follows curves. For straight edges the tape is enough, for curves binding is better.

How do I bind an edge neatly?

Lay the tape over the edge so the back overhangs slightly and topstitch from the front close to the border. The reverse is then caught securely without you having to see it.

Is the tape suitable for curves?

Only for shallow ones. Being woven on grain it gives very little. For tight curves and necklines, bias binding is the better choice, as it can be eased into shape.
