Only the carrier tape is stitched, the fringe stays free. Make sure the seam does not catch any strands – otherwise they hang unevenly and cannot be freed afterwards.

On edges that take heavy wear, fringe is unsuitable. It catches easily and can pull out; on cushion edges, blankets and decorative pieces it is much better placed.

Before washing, tie the fringe loosely together with a thread. It then does not tangle in the machine and can be smoothed out afterwards.

When cutting, sever the carrier tape first and then order the strands. Cutting straight across the fringe leaves uneven lengths that show.

How do I attach fringe trim without catching the strands?

Stitch only along the top edge of the carrier tape and push the fringe down with your hand. A zipper foot helps, as it guides the needle close to the edge.

Is fringe suitable for children's clothes?

Only to a degree. It catches easily and can work loose. On cushions, blankets and bags it is better placed than on clothing worn and washed every day.

How do I wash items with fringe trim?

Tie the fringe loosely together and wash in a laundry bag so it does not tangle. After drying, smooth the strands out and they hang evenly again.
