Ric rac braid is a narrow wavy tape made from 100 % viscose. Its thread carries that soft sheen viscose always has, while waves sit close together, evenly — stitched down it draws a fine zigzag line 5 mm across.
It looks best half hidden: laid into a seam so only wave tips peek out. Equally well it can be topstitched through its middle, becoming a decorative line across an otherwise quiet surface.
Stitch straight through its centre. Before washing, test a scrap first, since pale viscose may bleed slightly at first. Wash at 40 degrees, press cool, no bleach, no tumble drying.
What Zackenlitze Breite 5 mm - Weiß is suitable for
- School cones plus gift wrapping, where waves lend edges playfulness.
- Cushion covers plus curtains, where trim lines break up quiet surfaces.
- Children’s clothing plus aprons, where braid softens every hem.
Frequently asked questions
How do I stitch ric rac braid down?
Straight stitch through its middle, leaving waves free along both sides. Wanting only one row visible, lay your braid into a seam, then topstitch close along its edge from your right side.
Can I wash this braid at 40 degrees?
Yes, viscose takes ordinary coloured washing well. Bleach stays away, tumble drying too — waves shrink together there. Press it cool, ideally from behind, while your fabric still holds a little dampness.
Does white braid bleed colour?
White never bleeds itself, though it does pick colour up. Prewash dark fabrics before stitching braid across them. A scrap left soaking briefly will show you whether both partners suit each other.
How much do I need along a hem?
Measure your edge, adding a little extra around corners plus your starting point. Around curves braid lies more readily than flat tape, because waves give way. We cut your length in one piece.
