Description
Velvet ribbon behaves differently from satin: the short, upright pile absorbs light instead of reflecting it. The colour Mint therefore looks rich and calm rather than glossy. This ribbon is 16 mm wide and made from 100 % polyamide. It is sold by the metre from 0,2 metres, so you take exactly what your project needs. Use it for bows on gifts, for hair accessories, as a choker, or as an accent on bags and cushions. Handle it with a little care: pressure and heat flatten the pile, and that mark stays visible.
What Velvet Ribbon 16 mm in Mint is suitable for
- Bows on gifts and wreaths
- Hair accessories and hair bands
- Chokers and neck bands
- Accents on bags and cushions

Frequently asked questions
How does velvet ribbon differ from satin ribbon?
Velvet ribbon carries a short, upright pile while satin has a smooth surface. The pile absorbs light instead of reflecting it, so the colour looks deeper and the ribbon looks richer. In return it is more sensitive to pressure.
Can I iron this ribbon?
Better not. Heat and pressure flatten the pile, and that spot stays visible once the ribbon cools down again. Hang out creases instead, or treat them with steam from a safe distance.
Can velvet ribbon be washed?
It is made for decoration and accessories rather than laundry. Use it where it stays dry. Should it get damp, let it dry flat and avoid rubbing the pile while it is still wet.
Does the cut edge fray?
Polyamide frays slightly at the edge. Hold the end briefly near a flame and it seals cleanly. Keep enough distance so that the pile next to the cut does not melt as well.
