Description
Polypropylene is the fibre for webbing that has to take some punishment: it is strong, takes up almost no water and shrugs off sun and rain. That is why it turns up on rucksacks, dog leads and outdoor furniture. This band is 30 mm wide, the common size for bag straps, so side-release buckles, ladder locks and snap hooks are easy to find for it. In Burgundy it combines well with other trims. Sold by the metre from 0,2 metres. A cut end melts cleanly at a flame and will not fray afterwards.

Frequently asked questions
How do I stop the cut edge fraying?
Polypropylene melts under heat. Hold the cut end briefly near a flame, or cut the webbing with a hot knife, and the edge seals so that it will not fray again later.
Which hardware fits?
Anything made for 30 mm: side-release buckles, ladder locks, snap hooks, triglides. Check the inner width of the hardware rather than its outer size, otherwise the webbing jams or sits too loose.
Does it cope with wet conditions?
Yes. Polypropylene absorbs almost no water and dries quickly again. It does not go mouldy and keeps nearly all its strength when wet, so it suits outdoor use well.
Can I sew it on a domestic machine?
At 30 mm you can, as long as you do not stack several layers. Use a strong needle and sturdy thread and sew slowly, so the needle does not slip on the dense weave.
