When cutting velvet, all pieces face the same nap direction, otherwise they read differently in brightness. Weight per square metre comes to 520 g/m², width to 140 cm. It is woven from 100 % polyester.
In Dusty Pink the fabric reads friendly and light — the obvious pick for children's clothes and summer pieces. If you sew fluid goods for the first time, lay tissue paper under the seam; it stops puckering. Fabric by the metre is cut in one piece; your ordered length arrives as a single cut. Frequently asked questions
What do I do with offcuts?
Facings, pocket bags, bindings and hair ties. Fluid goods work well even in narrow strips, as long as the edge is enclosed. For neckerchiefs and hair ties an offcut that would otherwise be scrap is plenty.
How do I finish thin wovens?
Most cleanly with a French seam: the raw edges are enclosed in the seam and nothing shows outside. Alternatively with an overlocker, if the fabric is not too fine.
How do I recognise good drape?
By its behaviour over your hand: a fabric with drape falls into soft folds instead of standing. The softer the drape, the wider the cut may be without looking shapeless.
May it go in the dryer?
Better not. Viscose shrinks noticeably there, and polyester does not need it since it dries fast anyway. Hung up and pressed slightly damp, both look better.
