Description

Light blue here is a clear, cool sky blue with a slight grey veil. On the fulled surface it looks soft and calm, almost powdery.

Naomi is boiled wool: virgin wool is fulled in warm water until its loops bond into a dense, felt-like surface. At 385 g/m² it has real body, keeps wind out and stays warm while still breathing. Since nothing frays, edges can be left raw – a nice option for jacket facings, collars and pocket flaps. With 140 cm of width even long coat pieces sit side by side.

Naomi comes in many colours, handy for contrast collars and piping within one garment.

What Boiled Wool Light Blue 252 Naomi by Swafing is suitable for

  • Coats and jackets, because the dense fulled wool keeps wind out and stays warm unlined.
  • Children’s jackets and wool overalls, since wool breathes and keeps warm even when damp.
  • Ponchos, capes and hats with raw edges, because nothing frays.
  • Slippers, bags and coasters from offcuts.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to finish the edges?

No. Boiled wool is felted so densely that raw cut edges stay stable. Many sewists therefore leave facings, hems and collars raw on purpose and just topstitch close to the edge, which looks clean and saves bulk.

How do I care for boiled wool?

Please do not wash, bleach or tumble dry. Boiled wool is beaten out, brushed and aired outdoors; dab stains with a damp cloth straight away rather than rubbing them.

Which needle and stitch work best?

A sturdy universal needle and a slightly longer straight stitch run well through this dense cloth. Press seams open with steam and a pressing cloth, then topstitch them – that way they stay flat.

Does a coat need a lining?

It is not essential, since boiled wool keeps you warm and looks tidy inside. A smooth lining does make it easier to slip on over jumpers and protects the wool at collar and sleeves.
