About this range

Bouclé means "curled", and that is exactly what defines Kodiak: the surface is made of many small, tightly packed loops that recall a teddy bear's fur. Unlike long-pile plush, the pile is short and even, so the fabric looks calm and is easy to work with.

The back is a firm woven fabric rather than fleece. That gives jackets, gilets and coats their shape, but it also means that garments made from Kodiak need a lining so they feel pleasant inside. Cushions, chair covers and blankets do without one.

When cutting, lay all pieces in the same pile direction and cut only the backing from the wrong side so the pile is not trimmed. A walking foot keeps the layers together while sewing. The colours of the range are matched to each other, so you can set off a collar or pockets in a second shade.

Frequently asked questions

Does a teddy jacket made from Kodiak need a lining?

Yes. The back is a woven fabric, not soft fleece. Jersey works as a lining for stretchy patterns, otherwise use plain cotton, poplin or cotton sateen. Cushions and blankets do not need a lining.

How do I cut teddy bouclé without fluff everywhere?

Cut from the wrong side and use only the tip of your scissors to cut through the backing, not the pile. The curls stay intact and there is far less fluff. Simply vacuum up any loose fibres afterwards.

How do I wash Kodiak?

On a gentle cycle at a low temperature, and not in the tumble dryer. Do not iron the fabric directly; if needed, press it from the wrong side with low heat and a cloth in between so the curls are not flattened.
