Description
Dark grey is a deep charcoal with a soft sheen on the pile. The shade is restrained and versatile and goes with almost any colour, especially petrol, mustard and dusty pink. For men's vests, coats or a modern armchair cover dark grey is the easy choice.
Beneath the curls sits a woven base, not a soft fleece. It gives the fabric body and keeps it stable, but it also means that a teddy jacket or vest needs a lining. Jersey suits stretch patterns, cotton or cotton sateen suits all others.
When cutting, lay all pieces in the same pile direction and cut only through the base so the pile is not trimmed. A walking foot keeps the layers together.
What Plush in Dark Grey is suitable for
- Teddy jackets, vests and coats with a lining, because the firm woven backing gives the fabric body.
- Cushions and throws that should feel soft and warm.
- Collars, pocket trims and hoods as a boucle accent on smooth fabrics.
- Bags and accessories where the texture works even without decoration.
Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
Does Kodiak need a lining?
For garments, yes. The reverse is a woven base rather than fleece, so a lined jacket or vest is more comfortable and lasts longer. Jersey suits stretch patterns, otherwise use plain cotton, poplin or cotton sateen.
Is the fabric bulky at the seams?
A little, but less than long-pile plush, because the curls lie compact. Trim the seam allowances narrow and brush the pile out of the seam, and the seam almost disappears into the boucle.
Which sewing machine settings do you recommend?
A strong universal needle and a slightly longer stitch than for cotton. A walking foot prevents the layers from creeping against each other. Testing on a scrap first is always worthwhile.
How do I cut boucle without too much fluff?
Cut from the wrong side and use only the tip of the scissors on the base, so the pile stays intact. Afterwards simply vacuum loose fibres from the edges or remove them with a lint roller before sewing.
