A button often decides how a whole garment reads, being its only part standing clear of that surface. This one is Pearl Button.
Cut its buttonhole slightly beyond that diameter, since thickness passes through too. Test over scrap cloth: too tight tears while closing, too wide lets everything spring open.
Stitch it carrying a shank — lay a pin beneath, withdraw it afterwards, winding thread around whatever slack remains. Your button then rests loosely above cloth. Lined along a bag, this same button serves as decoration, wanting no buttonhole whatsoever.
What Perlenknopf 10 mm Perlmuttweiß is suitable for
- Blouses, shirts plus jackets meant to open.
- Cushion covers, because a button closure may stay visible.
- Decoration over bags, lined up rather than fastened.
Frequently asked questions
How large should its buttonhole be?
Slightly beyond that diameter, because a button's thickness passes through as well. Test one over scrap cloth: too tight tears while closing, too wide lets everything spring open again.
How do I attach it so it holds?
Giving it a shank: lay a pin beneath while stitching, withdraw it afterwards, winding thread around whatever slack remains. Your button then rests above cloth, never dragging its buttonhole askew.
May it go through a wash?
Usually yes. Wooden buttons dislike lasting damp, however, and may fade — across clothing washed often, washed hot, plastic or metal buttons stay handsome considerably longer.
What suits this button?
Blouses, jackets, cushion covers plus anything meant to open. It serves as pure decoration too, lined along a bag — no buttonhole wanted then, merely a firm seam.
