Description

Black works on nearly any fabric without long comparison. This fastener disappears on dark cloth and draws a deliberate line on pale cloth. At 80 cm of tooth length it fits wherever you need exactly that opening — measured on your finished pattern piece, not on paper.

These metal teeth carry a rainbow coating and shift tone with the light. Here the fastener is deliberately the focal point. A small fabric tab over the upper end stops the slider scratching a chin. That costs two minutes and makes the finished jacket noticeably more comfortable.

What Separating Zip 80 cm Black is suitable for

  • Sweat jackets, because the piece opens completely.
  • Coats, because this length reaches the hem.
  • Between-season jackets, because they open quickly.

Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions

Which length does a jacket need?

Measure the front edge on your finished pattern piece, hem to neckline, and deduct seam allowances. Err short: too long and it stands proud at the top, too short and your hem gapes.

What about crossing seams?

Open the fastener and push the slider out of the way before your needle arrives. Hit the slider or metal teeth and it breaks.

The slider sticks — what helps?

Usually fabric is caught between the teeth; ease it out rather than forcing it. If it still runs stiff, a little candle wax on the teeth helps.

Can I run it into a hood?

Yes, then the fastener runs up into the collar. Measure to the hood's edge in that case, not only to the neckline, or it comes out too short.
