Description

Black works on nearly any fabric without long comparison. This fastener disappears on dark cloth and draws a deliberate line on pale cloth. Tooth length comes to 16 cm. Lay it against your piece before cutting and you will see at once whether the opening sits right.

Nickel-plated teeth at 5.5 mm give a cool, silvery shine. Beside grey and black that reads more matter-of-fact than brass. Insert it with a zip foot, so your seam runs close beside the teeth. On bags it pays to sew the fastener in while the pieces still lie flat — afterwards your machine reaches that seam less easily.

  • Bags with a zipped compartment, because it stays closed at the bottom.
  • Sewing folders and tool rolls, because this fastener holds the contents.

Sewing tips

  • Die angegebene Länge ist die Zahnlänge, nicht die Bandlänge. Für den Schlitz im Schnittmuster zählt die Zahnlänge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden und die Naht knappkantig neben den Zähnen führen.
  • Zu lange Verschlüsse lassen sich kürzen: oben abschneiden, neuen Anschlag mit Handstichen setzen und das Band in die Nahtzugabe einschlagen.
  • In Taschen den Verschluss vor dem Zusammennähen der Seitennähte einsetzen, solange die Teile noch flach liegen.
  • Bei dünnen Stoffen ein Stück Vlieseline unterlegen, damit die Kante nicht ausreißt.
  • Metallausführungen nicht bügeln; die Spitzenvariante nur von links und mit Tuch.
  • Zum Waschen schließen. Offene Zähne verhaken sich in Maschenware und ziehen Fäden.

How do I set it into a bag?

Before closing the side seams, while the pieces still lie flat. Your machine then reaches everywhere and the seam runs straight instead of fighting a curve.

How long should a cushion opening be?

At least half the cushion width, ideally a little more. Otherwise the insert only goes in with a struggle and the corners stay unfilled.

The slider sticks — what helps?

Usually fabric or a thread is caught between the teeth; ease it out rather than forcing it. If it still runs stiff, a little candle wax on the teeth helps.

How should I store fasteners?

Flat and closed, ideally sorted by length. Stored folded, the tape keeps that crease, and you see it later along the sewn-in edge.
