Black works on nearly any fabric without long comparison. This fastener disappears on dark cloth and draws a deliberate line on pale cloth. Tooth length comes to 100 cm. Lay it against your piece before cutting and you will see at once whether the opening sits right.
These teeth are 5 mm wide and made of metal. They are visible, audible and belong on jackets allowed to look workshop-ready. Insert it with a zip foot so your seam runs close beside the teeth. Three to five millimetres is right: closer and the slider brushes it, further and the fabric throws a ripple.
What Teilbare Reißverschlüsse Schwarz is suitable for
- Sweat jackets, because the piece opens completely.
- Cardigans, because a fastener replaces a button placket.
- Rain jackets, because a separating fastener frees the whole front.
Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
What does separating mean?
At the bottom sits a box with a pin instead of a fixed stop. Pull that pin out and both halves part completely — your piece opens like a jacket and comes right off.
Can I shorten it?
From the top yes: cut it, fold the tape into your seam allowance and set a new stop with a few hand stitches. From the bottom you cannot — that is where the box and pin sit.
Does it work on sweat and jersey?
Yes, with strips of interfacing in the edge. Without reinforcement, knitted cloth stretches as you sew and the fastener pulls your finished jacket crooked.
What about crossing seams?
Open the fastener and push the slider out of the way before your needle arrives. Hit the slider or metal teeth and it breaks.
