Description

Polyester felt with the advantage craft felt lacks: Felty is washable and keeps both shape and colour. One roll of 3 m, 25 cm wide — you cut it to hoop size. Its weight per square metre is 210 g/m².

The cut edge does not fray — so it needs no finishing. Sulky lists Felty in over twenty colours, from muted shades to neon. Anyone making appliqué in series finds nearly any tone in it. If you embroider regularly, keeping one of the common sizes in stock pays off. Before the first design on a new fabric, a test piece with the same material pays off.

Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a patch from it?

Stitch the design, cut it out, back it with fusible stabiliser and press it on. An edge stitch makes it durable — especially where a piece rubs while worn.

How thick is the felt?

Dense enough to hold its shape and thin enough for a sewing machine to handle without effort. For appliqué on clothing that is exactly the right range.

How many colours are there?

Over twenty, from muted naturals to neon. Anyone making appliqué in series finds nearly every tone — and the colour number makes it reorderable. The number appears on the band and in the article name.

Does an appliqué hold without stitching?

In the short term yes, permanently no. Washing and rubbing lift a glued edge. A narrow zigzag or straight stitch around it settles the matter for good.
