Description

Maike is a French terry made from 95 % cotton and 5 % elastane. Its right side is smooth like a sturdy jersey, while fine loops on the reverse absorb moisture and feel pleasant on the skin. At 245 g/m² this fabric is lighter than brushed sweat, so it can be worn all year round.

Petrol 747 is a deep, calm blue-green. It goes with mustard, rust and natural white as well as grey and denim blue, and works for children and adults alike.

Thanks to its elastane share, cuffs and necklines spring back into shape after wearing. On 150 cm of width, front and back pieces usually lie side by side, which saves fabric when cutting.

Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions

How do I sew French terry?

Use a jersey or stretch needle and a stretch stitch, most easily on an overlocker. Only guide the fabric while sewing, do not pull it, or the seam will ripple. Hems work well with a twin needle.

Does Maike shrink in the wash?

Cotton can shrink a little in its first wash. Wash this fabric once before cutting, the same way the finished garment will be washed later. After that, its dimensions stay stable.

How do I care for this fabric?

Wash inside out at 30 degrees, do not bleach and do not tumble dry. If needed, iron from the reverse on a low setting. That keeps colour and looped side looking good for a long time.

When is summer sweat better than sweat?

Summer sweat is lighter and not brushed inside. It keeps you less warm but is more breathable and drapes more softly. For spring, autumn and warm homes it is often a more pleasant choice than thick winter sweat.
