French terry has small loops on the reverse. They give the fabric body and absorbency without the warmth of a brushed sweat. That makes it the fabric for transitional jackets, sweat dresses, hoodies and children's clothes.

Like the other fabrics in the range, Maike follows the shared colour card: the same number means the same shade in Eike, Heike, Maike and Vanessa. A sweat dress made from Maike therefore gets cuffing from Heike in exactly the same tone without any effort.

The fabric stretches across the grain and is sewn with a jersey needle and a stretch stitch. When pressing, the looped side should face down so the loops are not flattened.

What is the difference between summer sweat and winter sweat?

The inner face. Summer sweat or French terry shows fine loops, winter sweat is brushed and fleecy. This makes summer sweat lighter and cooler, winter sweat warmer and thicker.

Is French terry suitable for trousers?

Yes, very much so. Joggers and comfortable children's trousers turn out soft but stable. For trousers that need body, choose a firmer quality or a woven fabric.

Can I sew with the looped side facing out?

You can, and it gives a visible texture. Keep in mind that the loops are more delicate: they snag more easily and flatten faster with frequent washing than the smooth side.
