Description

Wanja is a velvet wide-wale corduroy with bold, broad ribs of soft pile. This fabric is made of 100 % polyester, weighs 380 g/m² and comes 140 cm wide.

Black is deep and elegant, almost soft-looking in velvet pile, and makes the rib structure stand out clearly. This colour is part of the permanent Wanja range and combines well with the other shades in the series.

Sew with a strong needle, a longer stitch and ideally a walking foot, so the thick layers do not shift.

For upholstery projects a test piece is worthwhile: tension, rib alignment and corners can be tried out calmly.

- Bags, pouches and baskets.
- Trousers and skirts with texture.
Sewing tips
Available in more colours in the Wanja series.

Frequently asked questions
How much fabric do I need for an armchair cover?
That depends on seat, back and armrests. Because of the pile direction all pieces must lie the same way, which costs some waste. It is best to measure the old cover pieces and allow a little extra.
How do I sew velvet wide cord?
Use a strong denim or universal needle, a longer stitch and ideally a walking foot, so the layers do not shift. Trim seam allowances narrow and press them apart with your fingers, and the seam will be less bulky.
What should I watch when cutting?
The velvet pile has a direction. Lay every piece the same way round, otherwise they will shimmer differently later. The ribs run along the grain and should meet at the same height across seams.
How do I care for Wanja?
Wash at 30 degrees, do not bleach, do not tumble dry and do not iron. After washing, pull it straight and dry flat. A gentle stroke with a soft brush lifts the pile again when needed.
