Description
Steel grey is a mid grey with a slight blue cast. It reads cooler and more technical than a neutral grey. 50 cm long — pick your length by the pattern piece rather than the paper pattern, since seam allowances and hem change the measurement.
This version carries 5 mm metal teeth. They take more strain than plastic but need more clearance from your needle while sewing. A facing tidies the front edge and covers the tape. Without one, finish your seam allowances beforehand — beside the tape, raw edges fray otherwise.

- Coats, because this length reaches the hem.
- Children's jackets, because the piece goes on and off easily.
Sewing tips
- Länge am fertigen Schnittteil messen, nicht am Schnittmuster — Nahtzugaben und Saum verändern die gebrauchte Länge.
- Reißverschlussfuß verwenden. Mit ihm kommt die Naht dicht an die Zähne, ohne dass der Fuß aufläuft.
- Vor dem Annähen beide Seiten gleich hoch ausrichten und heften. Verschiebt sich eine Hälfte, steht die Jacke am Saum auseinander.
- Bei dehnbaren Stoffen den Beleg mit Vlieseline verstärken, sonst wellt sich die Kante entlang des Bandes.
- Den Schieber vor der Quernaht öffnen und beiseiteschieben, damit die Nadel nicht auf Metall trifft.
- Metall- und Krampenverschlüsse nicht bügeln. Bei Spiralverschlüssen nur mit Tuch und niedriger Stufe.
- Beim Waschen den Verschluss schließen, dann verzieht sich das Band nicht und die Zähne haken sich nicht in anderer Wäsche fest.

How do I align both sides?
Lay both halves level and tack before sewing. Let one shift and your jacket stands apart at the hem — with the fastener closed, that shows at once.
Metal or plastic — which is better?
Plastic is lighter, more flexible and quieter; metal reads stronger and takes more strain. Sweat jackets do fine with plastic; for coats and workwear, metal serves better.
The slider sticks — what helps?
Usually fabric is caught between the teeth; ease it out rather than forcing it. If it still runs stiff, a little candle wax on the teeth helps.
Can I run it into a hood?
Yes, then the fastener runs up into the collar. Measure to the hood's edge in that case, not only to the neckline, or it comes out too short.
