Petrol is among the few colours nearly everyone agrees about: children like it, adults wear it gladly, while it reads neither especially old nor especially new. That is exactly why it stays popular as ribbing. Containing 95 % cotton alongside 5 % elastane, this fine rib stays skin-friendly and elastic, tested regarding harmful substances according to Oeko-Tex. Beside natural white petrol looks fresh, warm next to mustard, modern against grey, surprisingly harmonious alongside terracotta. Around garments meant to last it rarely disappoints.

Which needle and stitch work best?

Sew using a stretch or jersey needle in size 75 to 80, moving up to 90 across several layers at a hood or waistband. An overlocker or elastic stitch keeps the seam flexible, while a straight stitch snaps as the garment is pulled on.

What is fine rib ribbing used for?

Fine rib ribbing gives sleeves, hems and necklines a tidy finish. The elastic rib springs back after stretching, so edges on hoodies, sweat jackets or joggers sit firmly without pinching, keeping their shape through many washes.

How elastic is this ribbing containing 5 % elastane?

A share of 5 % elastane gives the fine rib structure extra recovery: the ribbing stretches widely, then springs back into shape. Sleeve or neck edges therefore never bag out, even on children's clothing that gets pulled on every day.

How should I wash and care for this fabric?

Wash the ribbing at 30 degrees inside out on a gentle cycle, without bleach, skipping the tumble dryer, then iron at low temperature without pulling. Pre-wash ribbing together alongside your main fabric before cutting, so both react identically.
