Description
A smoky violet with a hint of brown, muted and classy. Next to taupe, sand and black it looks restrained and still special.
The cord is round braided and at 8 mm sturdy enough for hoods, waistbands and drawstring bags. It is made from 100 % cotton, feels soft and sits well in the hand. Wash at 30 degrees and keep it out of the tumble dryer. You buy from 0.5 metres and cut exactly the length you need. The firm braid keeps its round shape even when the cord is pulled through a channel again and again.
What Round Cotton Cord 8 mm Mauve is suitable for
- Hoods on hoodies and sweat jackets
- Waistband cords on joggers and shorts
- Drawstring gym bags and backpacks
Sewing tips
Available in more colours in the Kordel rund 8 mm series.

Frequently asked questions
How wide should the channel be for 8 mm?
Make the channel clearly wider than the cord, roughly two centimetres when stitched. If it is too narrow, the cord snags as you pull it and puts needless strain on the seam.
Does the cord fray at the ends?
Only a little, because it is tightly braided. For neat ends, knot it, fit a cord end cap or wrap the end with thread. Heat sealing does not work on pure cotton.
Does the cord shrink in the wash?
Cotton draws in slightly during its first wash. So prewash the cord together with your fabric before threading it in, and the length will still be right afterwards.
Do eyelets and end caps fit this thickness?
Choose eyelets and cord stoppers with an inner opening of at least eight millimetres, ideally a little more. Then the cord glides through easily without rubbing and is still comfortable to draw closed after many washes.
