Mustard is a yellow carrying brown, reading earthier than pure yellow. It is one of those colours that turn up everywhere in autumn. It measures 45 cm. Too long, and you shorten it from the top, setting a new stop there.
Separate metal teeth of 5 mm — the version for anything meant to read strong. It is stiffer than a coil and follows curves less readily. A small fabric tab over the upper end stops the slider scratching a chin. That costs two minutes and makes the finished jacket noticeably more comfortable.

Sewing tips

- Reißverschlussfuß verwenden. Mit ihm kommt die Naht dicht an die Zähne, ohne dass der Fuß aufläuft.
- Vor dem Annähen beide Seiten gleich hoch ausrichten und heften. Verschiebt sich eine Hälfte, steht die Jacke am Saum auseinander.
- Bei dehnbaren Stoffen den Beleg mit Vlieseline verstärken, sonst wellt sich die Kante entlang des Bandes.
- Den Schieber vor der Quernaht öffnen und beiseiteschieben, damit die Nadel nicht auf Metall trifft.
- Metall- und Krampenverschlüsse nicht bügeln. Bei Spiralverschlüssen nur mit Tuch und niedriger Stufe.
- Beim Waschen den Verschluss schließen, dann verzieht sich das Band nicht und die Zähne haken sich nicht in anderer Wäsche fest.

Does it work on sweat and jersey?
Yes, with strips of interfacing in the edge. Without reinforcement, knitted cloth stretches as you sew and the fastener pulls your finished jacket crooked.
How do I stop the slider scratching a chin?
A small fabric tab over the upper end, or a piece of facing reaching past the slider. Either costs little effort and makes a jacket far more comfortable.
Which needle do I need?
A universal needle in a suitable size; across several layers a denim needle. Never sew over the teeth themselves — a needle breaks or bends there.
