Description

A clear white with no cream cast. On white or pale fabrics it stays discreet; on dark ones it turns into a design element. Tooth length comes to 45 cm. Lay it against your piece before cutting and you will see at once whether the opening sits right.

5 mm metal teeth. They turn the fastener into a visible design element rather than a purely functional part. Too long, and you shorten it from the top: cut, fold the tape into your seam allowance, set a new stop with hand stitches. From the bottom you cannot — that is where the box and pin sit.

What Separating Zip 45 cm White is suitable for

  • Coats, because this length reaches the hem.
  • Children's jackets, because the piece goes on and off easily.
  • Covers meant to come off entirely, because both halves separate.

Sewing tips

  • Länge am fertigen Schnittteil messen, nicht am Schnittmuster — Nahtzugaben und Saum verändern die gebrauchte Länge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden. Mit ihm kommt die Naht dicht an die Zähne, ohne dass der Fuß aufläuft.
  • Vor dem Annähen beide Seiten gleich hoch ausrichten und heften. Verschiebt sich eine Hälfte, steht die Jacke am Saum auseinander.
  • Bei dehnbaren Stoffen den Beleg mit Vlieseline verstärken, sonst wellt sich die Kante entlang des Bandes.
  • Den Schieber vor der Quernaht öffnen und beiseiteschieben, damit die Nadel nicht auf Metall trifft.
  • Metall- und Krampenverschlüsse nicht bügeln. Bei Spiralverschlüssen nur mit Tuch und niedriger Stufe.
  • Beim Waschen den Verschluss schließen, dann verzieht sich das Band nicht und die Zähne haken sich nicht in anderer Wäsche fest.

Frequently asked questions

How do I thread it back together?

Slider all the way down, guide the pin straight into the box and push it in to the stop. Only then pull up. Entered at an angle, the pin jams and the slider jumps off again.

What about crossing seams?

Open the fastener and push the slider out of the way before your needle arrives. Hit the slider or metal teeth and it breaks.

What is the box at the bottom for?

That box takes the pin and holds both halves together while the fastener is closed. It is the part that makes a separating jacket possible at all.

Can I run it into a hood?

Yes, then the fastener runs up into the collar. Measure to the hood's edge in that case, not only to the neckline, or it comes out too short.
