Description

A clear white with no cream cast. On white or pale fabrics it stays discreet; on dark ones it turns into a design element. Tooth length comes to 14 cm. Lay it against your piece before cutting and you will see at once whether the opening sits right.

At 3 mm the coil counts among the narrow versions: it draws little attention and sets neatly into a short seam. This fastener ships singly, so you match your quantity exactly. A spare in your sewing box never hurts though: it is quicker to hand than a reorder.

Sewing tips

  • Die angegebene Länge ist die Zahnlänge, nicht die Bandlänge. Für den Schlitz im Schnittmuster zählt die Zahnlänge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden und die Naht knappkantig neben den Zähnen führen.
  • Zu lange Verschlüsse lassen sich kürzen: oben abschneiden, neuen Anschlag mit Handstichen setzen und das Band in die Nahtzugabe einschlagen.
  • In Taschen den Verschluss vor dem Zusammennähen der Seitennähte einsetzen, solange die Teile noch flach liegen.
  • Bei dünnen Stoffen ein Stück Vlieseline unterlegen, damit die Kante nicht ausreißt.
  • Metallausführungen nicht bügeln; die Spitzenvariante nur von links und mit Tuch.
  • Zum Waschen schließen. Offene Zähne verhaken sich in Maschenware und ziehen Fäden.

Does it suit trousers?

Yes — for trousers and skirts a closed-end zip is exactly right, since it should not open fully there. Just make sure the length matches the opening in your pattern.

How do I get the seam close to the teeth?

With a zip foot, a slow pace and a tacked edge. Press the allowance beforehand and it lies flat while you sew, so the seam keeps an even distance.

Which needle should I use?

A universal needle in a suitable size. Never sew across the teeth themselves — on metal a needle breaks, on plastic it bends. Push the slider aside first.

Do I need two sliders?

Closed-end fasteners carry one, and that suffices — two sliders only make sense on long, separating fasteners, such as coats you want to open from the bottom.
