Description

A clear white with no cream cast. On white or pale fabrics it stays discreet; on dark ones it turns into a design element. At 55 cm of tooth length it fits wherever you need exactly that opening — measured on your finished pattern piece, not on paper.

A 5 mm plastic coil — the version fitted to most jackets. Store it flat and closed, ideally sorted by length. Folded, the tape keeps that crease, and you see it later along the sewn-in edge.

What Separating Zip 55 cm White is suitable for

  • Children's jackets, because the piece goes on and off easily.
  • Softshell jackets, because the fastener carries real function there.
  • Covers meant to come off entirely, because both halves separate.

Sewing tips

  • Länge am fertigen Schnittteil messen, nicht am Schnittmuster — Nahtzugaben und Saum verändern die gebrauchte Länge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden. Mit ihm kommt die Naht dicht an die Zähne, ohne dass der Fuß aufläuft.
  • Vor dem Annähen beide Seiten gleich hoch ausrichten und heften. Verschiebt sich eine Hälfte, steht die Jacke am Saum auseinander.
  • Bei dehnbaren Stoffen den Beleg mit Vlieseline verstärken, sonst wellt sich die Kante entlang des Bandes.
  • Den Schieber vor der Quernaht öffnen und beiseiteschieben, damit die Nadel nicht auf Metall trifft.
  • Metall- und Krampenverschlüsse nicht bügeln. Bei Spiralverschlüssen nur mit Tuch und niedriger Stufe.
  • Beim Waschen den Verschluss schließen, dann verzieht sich das Band nicht und die Zähne haken sich nicht in anderer Wäsche fest.

How do I care for the finished jacket?

Close the fastener before every wash. The tape then will not distort and the teeth cannot catch in other laundry. Never press directly over the slider.

Which needle do I need?

A universal needle in a suitable size; across several layers a denim needle. Never sew over the teeth themselves — a needle breaks or bends there.

What is the box at the bottom for?

That box takes the pin and holds both halves together while the fastener is closed. It is the part that makes a separating jacket possible at all.

Does a separating zip suit bags?

Rarely. A closed-end one serves better there, or your bag opens at the bottom. Separating only pays when two parts really should come apart.
