Description

Black works on nearly any fabric without long comparison. This fastener disappears on dark cloth and draws a deliberate line on pale cloth. Its length is 55 cm. That is tooth length; the tape above it disappears into your seam allowance.

This coil measures 5 mm, the usual width for jackets and bags: sturdy enough for frequent opening while staying flexible. It arrives singly, so you match your quantity exactly. On a jacket it lies openly in view, which makes a close look at the colour worthwhile.

Sewing tips

  • Länge am fertigen Schnittteil messen, nicht am Schnittmuster — Nahtzugaben und Saum verändern die gebrauchte Länge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden. Mit ihm kommt die Naht dicht an die Zähne, ohne dass der Fuß aufläuft.
  • Vor dem Annähen beide Seiten gleich hoch ausrichten und heften. Verschiebt sich eine Hälfte, steht die Jacke am Saum auseinander.
  • Bei dehnbaren Stoffen den Beleg mit Vlieseline verstärken, sonst wellt sich die Kante entlang des Bandes.
  • Den Schieber vor der Quernaht öffnen und beiseiteschieben, damit die Nadel nicht auf Metall trifft.
  • Metall- und Krampenverschlüsse nicht bügeln. Bei Spiralverschlüssen nur mit Tuch und niedriger Stufe.
  • Beim Waschen den Verschluss schließen, dann verzieht sich das Band nicht und die Zähne haken sich nicht in anderer Wäsche fest.

Frequently asked questions

What does separating mean?

At the bottom sits a box with a pin instead of a fixed stop. Pull that pin out and both halves part completely — your piece opens like a jacket and comes right off.

Which length does a jacket need?

Measure the front edge on your finished pattern piece, hem to neckline, and deduct seam allowances. Err short: too long and it stands proud at the top, too short and your hem gapes.

What about crossing seams?

Open the fastener and push the slider out of the way before your needle arrives. Hit the slider or metal teeth and it breaks.

How do I stop the slider scratching a chin?

A small fabric tab over the upper end, or a piece of facing reaching past the slider. Either costs little effort and makes a jacket far more comfortable.
