Description

Black works on nearly any fabric without long comparison. This fastener disappears on dark cloth and draws a deliberate line on pale cloth. 30 cm long — pick your length by the pattern piece rather than the paper pattern, since seam allowances and hem change the measurement.

A plastic coil of 3 mm. It weighs almost nothing and stays flexible enough not to intrude on blouses or dresses. Tack the edge before sewing and press the seam allowance flat, then your topstitching keeps an even distance. A slow pace helps more here than any amount of practice.

What Closed-End Zip 30 cm Black is suitable for

  • Bags with a zipped compartment, because it stays closed at the bottom.
  • Trousers and skirts, because only an opening should part there.
  • Seat cushion covers, because the cover comes off for washing.

Sewing tips

  • Die angegebene Länge ist die Zahnlänge, nicht die Bandlänge. Für den Schlitz im Schnittmuster zählt die Zahnlänge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden und die Naht knappkantig neben den Zähnen führen.
  • Zu lange Verschlüsse lassen sich kürzen: oben abschneiden, neuen Anschlag mit Handstichen setzen und das Band in die Nahtzugabe einschlagen.
  • In Taschen den Verschluss vor dem Zusammennähen der Seitennähte einsetzen, solange die Teile noch flach liegen.
  • Bei dünnen Stoffen ein Stück Vlieseline unterlegen, damit die Kante nicht ausreißt.
  • Metallausführungen nicht bügeln; die Spitzenvariante nur von links und mit Tuch.
  • Zum Waschen schließen. Offene Zähne verhaken sich in Maschenware und ziehen Fäden.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a cushion opening be?

At least half the cushion width, ideally a little more. Otherwise the insert only goes in with a struggle and the corners stay unfilled.

Does it suit trousers?

Yes — for trousers and skirts a closed-end zip is exactly right, since it should not open fully there. Just make sure the length matches the opening in your pattern.

How do I get the seam close to the teeth?

With a zip foot, a slow pace and a tacked edge. Press the allowance beforehand and it lies flat while you sew, so the seam keeps an even distance.

Centred or concealed?

Set centred, both lines of topstitching show evenly; concealed, only one remains visible. Trousers usually take concealed, bags and cushions the centred version.
