A delicate, pale pink. For children's clothes, baby pieces and anything meant to look light, it is the obvious pick. 30 cm — that length is measured without the tape running into the seam above and below.

3 mm of coil width — narrow enough for fine wovens, strong enough for the slider to grip securely. On blouses and dresses the fine version suffices; on bags and rucksacks it may run stronger. Width decides less about durability than about how visible the fastener becomes.

Sewing tips

  • Die angegebene Länge ist die Zahnlänge, nicht die Bandlänge. Für den Schlitz im Schnittmuster zählt die Zahnlänge.

  • Bei dünnen Stoffen ein Stück Vlieseline unterlegen, damit die Kante nicht ausreißt.
  • Metallausführungen nicht bügeln; die Spitzenvariante nur von links und mit Tuch.
  • Zum Waschen schließen. Offene Zähne verhaken sich in Maschenware und ziehen Fäden.

At least half the cushion width, ideally a little more. Otherwise the insert only goes in with a struggle and the corners stay unfilled.

Which presser foot do I need?

A zip foot. It runs beside the teeth rather than over them, so your seam comes close enough without the foot riding up and the stitching wandering.

Does it suit trousers?

Yes — for trousers and skirts a closed-end zip is exactly right, since it should not open fully there. Just make sure the length matches the opening in your pattern.

How should I store fasteners?

Flat and closed, ideally sorted by length. Stored folded, the tape keeps that crease, and you see it later along the sewn-in edge.
