Description

Black works on nearly any fabric without long comparison. This fastener disappears on dark cloth and draws a deliberate line on pale cloth. Its length is 85 cm. That is tooth length; the tape above it disappears into your seam allowance.

5 mm of coil width — the standard size for outerwear. It takes strain without reading as heavy as a metal fastener. For bags a separating version is rarely right — the base would open otherwise. It only pays when two parts really should come apart.

What Separating Zip 85 cm Black is suitable for

  • Sweat jackets, because the piece opens completely.
  • Waistcoats, because it lies smoothly into the front edge.
  • Cardigans, because a fastener replaces a button placket.

Sewing tips

  • Länge am fertigen Schnittteil messen, nicht am Schnittmuster — Nahtzugaben und Saum verändern die gebrauchte Länge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden. Mit ihm kommt die Naht dicht an die Zähne, ohne dass der Fuß aufläuft.
  • Vor dem Annähen beide Seiten gleich hoch ausrichten und heften. Verschiebt sich eine Hälfte, steht die Jacke am Saum auseinander.
  • Bei dehnbaren Stoffen den Beleg mit Vlieseline verstärken, sonst wellt sich die Kante entlang des Bandes.
  • Den Schieber vor der Quernaht öffnen und beiseiteschieben, damit die Nadel nicht auf Metall trifft.
  • Metall- und Krampenverschlüsse nicht bügeln. Bei Spiralverschlüssen nur mit Tuch und niedriger Stufe.
  • Beim Waschen den Verschluss schließen, dann verzieht sich das Band nicht und die Zähne haken sich nicht in anderer Wäsche fest.

How do I align both sides?

Lay both halves level and tack before sewing. Let one shift and your jacket stands apart at the hem — with the fastener closed, that shows at once.

How do I stop the slider scratching a chin?

A small fabric tab over the upper end, or a piece of facing reaching past the slider. Either costs little effort and makes a jacket far more comfortable.

Metal or plastic — which is better?

Plastic is lighter, more flexible and quieter; metal reads stronger and takes more strain. Sweat jackets do fine with plastic; for coats and workwear, metal serves better.

Does a separating zip suit bags?

Rarely. A closed-end one serves better there, or your bag opens at the bottom. Separating only pays when two parts really should come apart.
