Description

A clear white with no cream cast. On white or pale fabrics it stays discreet; on dark ones it turns into a design element. At 85 cm of tooth length it fits wherever you need exactly that opening — measured on your finished pattern piece, not on paper.

This coil measures 5 mm, the usual width for jackets and bags: sturdy enough for frequent opening while staying flexible. Open the fastener before every crossing seam and push the slider out of the way. If your needle hits the slider or metal teeth it breaks — the commonest cause of a broken needle.

What Separating Zip 85 cm White is suitable for

Sewing tips

  • Länge am fertigen Schnittteil messen, nicht am Schnittmuster — Nahtzugaben und Saum verändern die gebrauchte Länge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden. Mit ihm kommt die Naht dicht an die Zähne, ohne dass der Fuß aufläuft.
  • Vor dem Annähen beide Seiten gleich hoch ausrichten und heften. Verschiebt sich eine Hälfte, steht die Jacke am Saum auseinander.
  • Bei dehnbaren Stoffen den Beleg mit Vlieseline verstärken, sonst wellt sich die Kante entlang des Bandes.
  • Den Schieber vor der Quernaht öffnen und beiseiteschieben, damit die Nadel nicht auf Metall trifft.
  • Metall- und Krampenverschlüsse nicht bügeln. Bei Spiralverschlüssen nur mit Tuch und niedriger Stufe.
  • Beim Waschen den Verschluss schließen, dann verzieht sich das Band nicht und die Zähne haken sich nicht in anderer Wäsche fest.

Frequently asked questions

What does separating mean?

At the bottom sits a box with a pin instead of a fixed stop. Pull that pin out and both halves part completely — your piece opens like a jacket and comes right off.

Can I shorten it?

From the top yes: cut it, fold the tape into your seam allowance and set a new stop with a few hand stitches. From the bottom you cannot — that is where the box and pin sit.

Do I need a facing?

It makes the edge tidy and covers the tape. On stretch fabrics reinforce it with interfacing, or your front edge ripples along the tape.

What is the box at the bottom for?

That box takes the pin and holds both halves together while the fastener is closed. It is the part that makes a separating jacket possible at all.
