Description

Black works on nearly any fabric without long comparison. This fastener disappears on dark cloth and draws a deliberate line on pale cloth. At 50 cm a long dress opens below the waist. For covers and slipcovers it is the length at which a piece truly lies flat.

A fine plastic coil of 3 mm on a polyester tape. The upper tape end disappears into the seam allowance of your facing or waistband; fold it outwards so it cannot jam under the slider. Sew with a universal needle — never across the coil itself, where a needle breaks.

What Nahtverdeckte Reißverschlüsse Schwarz is suitable for

  • Long dresses, because this opening reaches below the waist.
  • Coats with a concealed fastening, because no placket intrudes.
  • Large covers, because the cover opens out completely.

Sewing tips

  • Ein spezieller Nähfuß für nahtverdeckte Reißverschlüsse ist praktisch Pflicht — er rollt die Spirale auf und führt die Naht direkt darunter.
  • Der Verschluss wird eingenäht, BEVOR die Naht darunter geschlossen wird. Das ist umgekehrt zum normalen Reißverschluss.
  • Vor dem Nähen die Spirale mit dem Bügeleisen auf niedriger Stufe flach ausrollen, dann kommt die Naht nah genug an die Zähne.
  • Beide Seiten von oben nach unten nähen, nicht gegenläufig — sonst verzieht sich die eine Seite gegen die andere.
  • Am unteren Ende so weit nähen, wie der Fuß kommt, dann den Rest der Naht mit normalem Fuß schließen und die letzten Zentimeter von Hand verriegeln.
  • Bei dehnbaren Stoffen ein schmales Formband oder Vlieseline in die Nahtzugabe legen, damit die Kante gerade bleibt.
  • Zum Waschen schließen und nicht direkt über den Schieber bügeln.

How do I care for the finished piece?

Close the fastener before every wash, so the tape will not distort and the teeth cannot catch in other laundry. Never press directly over the slider.

Which colour should I pick?

Since only the slider stays visible, a roughly matching tone suffices. For maximum discretion, take the next darker shade — a fastener too pale stands out more than one too dark.

How does it look tidy inside?

A facing or lining covers your seam allowances and the tape. If you have neither, finish those allowances with overlock or zigzag beforehand, or they fray beside the tape.

What is it made of?

Its tape is 100 % polyester and the coil is plastic too. That makes it lighter and more flexible than a metal fastener — exactly what an invisible seam needs.
