Sand is a pale, warm beige — the tone unbleached cotton and linen carry. On natural fabrics you barely see this fastener. 25 cm covers waistband and hip on a skirt — the standard length for side fastenings, and for cushion covers whose insert should come out comfortably.
An invisible coil fastener of 3 mm on a tape in 100 % polyester. It weighs little and stays flexible, so it adds no bulk on fine fabrics. Finish your seam allowances with overlock or zigzag beforehand if no lining follows — beside the tape, raw edges fray otherwise. Sew both sides from top to bottom.
What Nahtverdeckte Reißverschlüsse Sand is suitable for
- Cushion covers, because the insert slides in comfortably.
- Trousers fastening at the side, because that seam reads closed.
- Bags with an inner pocket, because the tape adds little bulk.
Sewing tips
- Ein spezieller Nähfuß für nahtverdeckte Reißverschlüsse ist praktisch Pflicht — er rollt die Spirale auf und führt die Naht direkt darunter.
- Der Verschluss wird eingenäht, BEVOR die Naht darunter geschlossen wird. Das ist umgekehrt zum normalen Reißverschluss.
- Vor dem Nähen die Spirale mit dem Bügeleisen auf niedriger Stufe flach ausrollen, dann kommt die Naht nah genug an die Zähne.
- Beide Seiten von oben nach unten nähen, nicht gegenläufig — sonst verzieht sich die eine Seite gegen die andere.
- Am unteren Ende so weit nähen, wie der Fuß kommt, dann den Rest der Naht mit normalem Fuß schließen und die letzten Zentimeter von Hand verriegeln.
- Bei dehnbaren Stoffen ein schmales Formband oder Vlieseline in die Nahtzugabe legen, damit die Kante gerade bleibt.
- Zum Waschen schließen und nicht direkt über den Schieber bügeln.

Frequently asked questions
The slider is sticking — what helps?
Usually fabric or a thread is caught between the teeth. Ease it out rather than pulling hard. If it still runs stiff afterwards, a little candle wax on the coil helps.
Which colour should I pick?
Since only the slider stays visible, a roughly matching tone suffices. For maximum discretion, take the next darker shade — a fastener too pale stands out more than one too dark.
Which needle should I use?
A universal needle in a suitable size will do; on fine fabrics a Microtex. More important than the needle is not sewing across the coil — it is plastic, and a needle breaks easily there.
What do I do with the upper tape end?
It disappears into the seam allowance of your facing or waistband. Fold it outwards there, so it cannot jam under the slider and your fastener runs right to the top.
