Sand is a pale, warm beige — the tone unbleached cotton and linen carry. On natural fabrics you barely see this fastener. 60 cm runs the whole back of an evening dress. On mattress and upholstery covers it is the length that lets the cover open completely.
A coil zip of 3 mm on a tape in 100 % polyester. Because plastic is lighter and more flexible than metal, the coil can be rolled open as you sew — which is what lets your seam sit close enough to the teeth. Shorten it from the top: cut, fold the tape into your seam allowance and set a new stop with a few hand stitches. From the bottom you cannot, that is where the fixed stop sits.

Sewing tips
- Ein spezieller Nähfuß für nahtverdeckte Reißverschlüsse ist praktisch Pflicht — er rollt die Spirale auf und führt die Naht direkt darunter.
- Der Verschluss wird eingenäht, BEVOR die Naht darunter geschlossen wird. Das ist umgekehrt zum normalen Reißverschluss.
- Vor dem Nähen die Spirale mit dem Bügeleisen auf niedriger Stufe flach ausrollen, dann kommt die Naht nah genug an die Zähne.
- Beide Seiten von oben nach unten nähen, nicht gegenläufig — sonst verzieht sich die eine Seite gegen die andere.
- Am unteren Ende so weit nähen, wie der Fuß kommt, dann den Rest der Naht mit normalem Fuß schließen und die letzten Zentimeter von Hand verriegeln.
- Bei dehnbaren Stoffen ein schmales Formband oder Vlieseline in die Nahtzugabe legen, damit die Kante gerade bleibt.
- Zum Waschen schließen und nicht direkt über den Schieber bügeln.

Frequently asked questions
In what order do I sew?
The opposite way round from an ordinary zip: first sew the fastener into the open edges, then close the seam below it. Sew first and insert after, and you will never get it neatly under.
Which direction do I sew from?
Both sides from top to bottom. Sew them against each other and one half travels against the other, leaving your opening crooked — on dresses that shows at once.
Will it show afterwards?
Only the slider. Those teeth lie entirely inside the seam, leaving a closed seam line outside — which is exactly why invisible zips are first choice on dresses and skirts.
Is this manageable for beginners?
With the right foot yes; it looks harder than it is. Sew a practice run on two scraps and you will see at once how close the seam comes to the teeth, then work more calmly.
