Description

Beige grey is taupe kept calm: a warm grey with a hint of brown. It suits natural tones as readily as grey. 60 cm runs the whole back of an evening dress. On mattress and upholstery covers it is the length that lets the cover open completely.

This construction is meant for dresses, skirts and cushions where a zip placket would intrude. Coil 3 mm, tape in 100 % polyester. At the lower end, sew as far as the foot will go, switch to an ordinary zip foot and close the rest of the seam — backstitch those last centimetres by hand, so nothing gapes. Inside, a facing or lining covers your seam allowances and the tape.

What Invisible Zip 60 cm Beige Grey is suitable for

  • Evening dresses, because this opening runs the whole back.
  • Mattress and upholstery covers, because the piece opens fully.
  • Bridal gowns, because that seam stays closed down the back.

Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions

Which direction do I sew from?

Both sides from top to bottom. Sew them against each other and one half travels against the other, leaving your opening crooked — on dresses that shows at once.

Does it work on jersey?

Yes, if you stabilise the edge. A narrow stay tape or a strip of interfacing in your seam allowance stops that edge stretching as you sew and rippling afterwards.

The slider is sticking — what helps?

Usually fabric or a thread is caught between the teeth. Ease it out rather than pulling hard. If it still runs stiff afterwards, a little candle wax on the coil helps.

How do I set it into a cushion cover?

Into the side seam, before sewing the cover together. Measure so your opening takes up at least half the cushion width — otherwise the insert only goes back in with a struggle.
