Description

Beige grey is taupe kept calm: a warm grey with a hint of brown. It suits natural tones as readily as grey. At 80 cm of tooth length it fits wherever you need exactly that opening — measured on your finished pattern piece, not on paper.

5 mm metal teeth. They turn the fastener into a visible design element rather than a purely functional part. Insert it with a zip foot so your seam runs close beside the teeth. Three to five millimetres is right: closer and the slider brushes it, further and the fabric throws a ripple.

What Separating Zip 80 cm Beige Grey is suitable for

  • Coats, because this length reaches the hem.
  • Waistcoats, because it lies smoothly into the front edge.
  • Children's jackets, because the piece goes on and off easily.

Sewing tips

  • Länge am fertigen Schnittteil messen, nicht am Schnittmuster — Nahtzugaben und Saum verändern die gebrauchte Länge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden. Mit ihm kommt die Naht dicht an die Zähne, ohne dass der Fuß aufläuft.
  • Vor dem Annähen beide Seiten gleich hoch ausrichten und heften. Verschiebt sich eine Hälfte, steht die Jacke am Saum auseinander.
  • Bei dehnbaren Stoffen den Beleg mit Vlieseline verstärken, sonst wellt sich die Kante entlang des Bandes.
  • Den Schieber vor der Quernaht öffnen und beiseiteschieben, damit die Nadel nicht auf Metall trifft.
  • Metall- und Krampenverschlüsse nicht bügeln. Bei Spiralverschlüssen nur mit Tuch und niedriger Stufe.
  • Beim Waschen den Verschluss schließen, dann verzieht sich das Band nicht und die Zähne haken sich nicht in anderer Wäsche fest.

What about crossing seams?

Open the fastener and push the slider out of the way before your needle arrives. Hit the slider or metal teeth and it breaks.

The slider sticks — what helps?

Usually fabric is caught between the teeth; ease it out rather than forcing it. If it still runs stiff, a little candle wax on the teeth helps.

Which needle do I need?

A universal needle in a suitable size; across several layers a denim needle. Never sew over the teeth themselves — a needle breaks or bends there.

What is the box at the bottom for?

That box takes the pin and holds both halves together while the fastener is closed. It is the part that makes a separating jacket possible at all.
