Description

Sand is a pale, warm beige — the tone unbleached cotton and linen carry. On natural fabrics you barely see this fastener. 25 cm long — pick your length by the pattern piece rather than the paper pattern, since seam allowances and hem change the measurement.

This version carries a fine 3 mm coil. On light fabrics it is the calmer choice against metal. This construction needs no second slider — those only make sense on long, separating fasteners. Here one slider runs onto the fixed stop and stays there.

What Closed-End Zip 25 cm Sand is suitable for

  • Trousers and skirts, because only an opening should part there.
  • Dresses fastening at the side, because that seam stays calm.
  • Rucksacks, because a fixed stop takes strain.

Sewing tips

  • Die angegebene Länge ist die Zahnlänge, nicht die Bandlänge. Für den Schlitz im Schnittmuster zählt die Zahnlänge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden und die Naht knappkantig neben den Zähnen führen.
  • Zu lange Verschlüsse lassen sich kürzen: oben abschneiden, neuen Anschlag mit Handstichen setzen und das Band in die Nahtzugabe einschlagen.
  • In Taschen den Verschluss vor dem Zusammennähen der Seitennähte einsetzen, solange die Teile noch flach liegen.
  • Bei dünnen Stoffen ein Stück Vlieseline unterlegen, damit die Kante nicht ausreißt.
  • Metallausführungen nicht bügeln; die Spitzenvariante nur von links und mit Tuch.
  • Zum Waschen schließen. Offene Zähne verhaken sich in Maschenware und ziehen Fäden.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set it into a bag?

Before closing the side seams, while the pieces still lie flat. Your machine then reaches everywhere and the seam runs straight instead of fighting a curve.

Does it work on jersey?

Yes, if you stabilise the edge. A strip of interfacing or a narrow stay tape in the seam allowance stops that edge stretching as you sew and rippling later.

The slider sticks — what helps?

Usually fabric or a thread is caught between the teeth; ease it out rather than forcing it. If it still runs stiff, a little candle wax on the teeth helps.

Which needle should I use?

A universal needle in a suitable size. Never sew across the teeth themselves — on metal a needle breaks, on plastic it bends. Push the slider aside first.
