Description

A rich, dark brown like plain chocolate. With corduroy, linen and anything in natural tones it suits better than black. Tooth length comes to 25 cm. Lay it against your piece before cutting and you will see at once whether the opening sits right.

A plastic coil of 3 mm. It weighs almost nothing and stays flexible enough not to intrude on blouses or dresses. Set centred, it shows two even lines of topstitching; set concealed, only one. Trousers usually take the concealed version, bags and cushions the centred one.

Sewing tips

  • Die angegebene Länge ist die Zahnlänge, nicht die Bandlänge. Für den Schlitz im Schnittmuster zählt die Zahnlänge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden und die Naht knappkantig neben den Zähnen führen.
  • Zu lange Verschlüsse lassen sich kürzen: oben abschneiden, neuen Anschlag mit Handstichen setzen und das Band in die Nahtzugabe einschlagen.
  • In Taschen den Verschluss vor dem Zusammennähen der Seitennähte einsetzen, solange die Teile noch flach liegen.
  • Bei dünnen Stoffen ein Stück Vlieseline unterlegen, damit die Kante nicht ausreißt.
  • Metallausführungen nicht bügeln; die Spitzenvariante nur von links und mit Tuch.
  • Zum Waschen schließen. Offene Zähne verhaken sich in Maschenware und ziehen Fäden.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set it into a bag?

Before closing the side seams, while the pieces still lie flat. Your machine then reaches everywhere and the seam runs straight instead of fighting a curve.

How long should a cushion opening be?

At least half the cushion width, ideally a little more. Otherwise the insert only goes in with a struggle and the corners stay unfilled.

Does it work on jersey?

Yes, if you stabilise the edge. A strip of interfacing or a narrow stay tape in the seam allowance stops that edge stretching as you sew and rippling later.

What do I do with the tape ends?

They run into the seam allowance and are caught there. Fold them slightly outwards at an angle, so they add no bulk at the corner and the slider reaches the top.
