Description

A clear red with neither blue nor orange cast. On dark fabrics this fastener becomes a deliberate accent. 25 cm long — pick your length by the pattern piece rather than the paper pattern, since seam allowances and hem change the measurement.

This version carries a fine 3 mm coil. On light fabrics it is the calmer choice against metal. Inside, a facing or lining covers the tape. Without either, finish your seam allowances with overlock or zigzag beforehand — beside the tape, raw edges fray otherwise.

What Closed-End Zip 25 cm Red is suitable for

  • Cases and pouches, because the tape adds little bulk.
  • Dresses fastening at the side, because that seam stays calm.
  • Rucksacks, because a fixed stop takes strain.

Sewing tips

  • Die angegebene Länge ist die Zahnlänge, nicht die Bandlänge. Für den Schlitz im Schnittmuster zählt die Zahnlänge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden und die Naht knappkantig neben den Zähnen führen.
  • Zu lange Verschlüsse lassen sich kürzen: oben abschneiden, neuen Anschlag mit Handstichen setzen und das Band in die Nahtzugabe einschlagen.
  • In Taschen den Verschluss vor dem Zusammennähen der Seitennähte einsetzen, solange die Teile noch flach liegen.
  • Bei dünnen Stoffen ein Stück Vlieseline unterlegen, damit die Kante nicht ausreißt.
  • Metallausführungen nicht bügeln; die Spitzenvariante nur von links und mit Tuch.
  • Zum Waschen schließen. Offene Zähne verhaken sich in Maschenware und ziehen Fäden.

Does it suit trousers?

Yes — for trousers and skirts a closed-end zip is exactly right, since it should not open fully there. Just make sure the length matches the opening in your pattern.

The slider sticks — what helps?

Usually fabric or a thread is caught between the teeth; ease it out rather than forcing it. If it still runs stiff, a little candle wax on the teeth helps.

Do I need two sliders?

Closed-end fasteners carry one, and that suffices — two sliders only make sense on long, separating fasteners, such as coats you want to open from the bottom.

How should I store fasteners?

Flat and closed, ideally sorted by length. Stored folded, the tape keeps that crease, and you see it later along the sewn-in edge.
