A clear red with neither blue nor orange cast. On dark fabrics this fastener becomes a deliberate accent. Tooth length comes to 70 cm. Lay it against your piece before cutting and you will see at once whether the opening sits right.
That continuous coil runs 5 mm. Against metal teeth it reads less conspicuous and follows curves more softly. Open the fastener before every crossing seam and push the slider out of the way. If your needle hits the slider or metal teeth it breaks — the commonest cause of a broken needle.
What Teilbare Reißverschlüsse Rot is suitable for
- Coats, because this length reaches the hem.
- Waistcoats, because it lies smoothly into the front edge.
- Between-season jackets, because they open quickly.
Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
Can I shorten it?
From the top yes: cut it, fold the tape into your seam allowance and set a new stop with a few hand stitches. From the bottom you cannot — that is where the box and pin sit.
How do I care for the finished jacket?
Close the fastener before every wash. The tape then will not distort and the teeth cannot catch in other laundry. Never press directly over the slider.
Metal or plastic — which is better?
Plastic is lighter, more flexible and quieter; metal reads stronger and takes more strain. Sweat jackets do fine with plastic; for coats and workwear, metal serves better.
The slider sticks — what helps?
Usually fabric is caught between the teeth; ease it out rather than forcing it. If it still runs stiff, a little candle wax on the teeth helps.
